IRC 3-Zone HVAC Controller

HVAC zoning is now standard equipment in over 40% of new homes built today. As homes get larger and are better insulated, zoning becomes more important. Zoning saves energy dollars, makes homes more comfortable and often reduces the size and amount of HVAC equipment necessary to condition the home. Contrary to popular belief, using multiple HVAC systems is not considered zoning since each system operates independently. In a true zoned system the zones work together to distribute conditioned air where it is needed most. Even if building size necessitates the use of multiple systems, the addition of a zone controller can greatly improve comfort and efficiency.

The 3-zone controller from Innovative Residential Controls is a microprocessor based controller that can control up to three separate zones. The controller makes intelligent decisions about how best to condition the entire space. This zone controller is self-optimizing by using an event recorder that stores several days worth of data. It uses this information to determine the most efficient way to maintain zone temperatures. In the average two-storied home the temperature upstairs is commonly 7 to 10 degrees higher than on the main level. The IRC zone controller can reduce this differential to less than 1 or 2 degrees.
